First Baptist Church of Loxley,
With much gratitude and hope I formally announce to our church family and Central Baldwin Community that I will resign as Associate Pastor of Students and Worship Friday, July 31, 2020. It has been a joy to serve you all in the abundant ways you and the Lord have granted me in the nearly 8-year season I’ve occupied. I am thankful for the opportunity to have worked with the incredible caliber of staff members, congregants, and partnerships with which First Baptist Church has weaved itself. God never stops doing mighty things in and through this humble church that sits just five blocks off 59, and may you continue your humble work in bringing the Kingdom of God to Loxley, Baldwin County, Alabama, and the ends of the earth.
Be praying for us as Devin and I look towards new horizons following our marriage on May 30th in Orange Beach. We are excited to announce that in early August she and I will move to Huntsville, Alabama as she completes her degree’s required internship with Huntsville’s Hospital for Women and Children this fall through Auburn University. I couldn’t be more proud of her accomplishments she’s made to this point, and I am honored to support her endeavors in becoming a child advocate as a Child Life Specialist. That being said, we will sadly need to depart the Loxley area and our beloved Baldwin County community and step out in faith into a new ministry or job assignment in Northern Alabama.
In the meantime, over the next several weeks I’ll be working closely with key church leaders to bridge the gap from today to tomorrow in insuring First Baptist Church will have a successful transition. Our church has already journeyed through many events in just 2020 alone, and though this can be another potentially difficult moment for Loxley as we say good-bye, you can trust that your church’s leadership will empower you to say hello to a new refreshed season of ministry that lies ahead. And I couldn’t be more eager to help you in any way I can in the time that remains between us.
In my final analysis of our relationship with one another, I believe you and I achieved together the church’s primary mission to exalt God, edify the saints, and call the lost to examine the gospel. I believe we did this in a number of ways including weekly worship, mentoring your children and youth, traveling on mission trips together, doing unforgettable outreach events like GLOWFest and VBS, and I couldn’t be more thankful and satisfied by our results and memories made possible through the power of the Holy Spirit! I am also thankful for the maturity we sharpened in each other while we ministered together, and I hope you will never lose your sense of “loving God and helping others do the same” while being a family.
We will never forget you, our family at First Baptist, nor the incredible friends both Devin and I made and have worked with throughout every square inch of Baldwin County! We’ll never forget the experiences we’ve all shared together, our gospel work, the professional or personal lessons you taught us about the power of humility and the value of a church family among others, and the point of it all - that we love God and we love people. As I take my last few steps across your campus, I hope that my contributions have proven to deepen your heart of worship, and may you never forget to worship “in spirit and in truth.” Now we say thank you, we love you, and let’s finish this season’s race together well, before we depart one another in the weeks to come.
In Christ Alone,
Rev. Chris Capasse & Devin Van Cleave
